For the empowerment and mainstreaming of people with intellectual challenges, a unique comprehensive programme called 'Prachodanam' has been formulated by the Department of Social Justice, Governement of Kerala. The project focuses on comprehensive development of persons with Intellectual disabilities through vocational training, skill Development, supported employment etc. The project proposes to cover the skill development programmes, employability and livelihood programmes. The project aims to promote skilling and employment projects for persons with intellectual disabilities by giving state government support to eligible NGOs, LSGDs and Government institutions

Aims and Objectives

a) The primary objective is to empower individuals with intellectual disability aged 18 years and above, with skills that enhance their independence, social integration, and employability.

b) Provide training in specific vocational areas, such as hospitality, retail, or crafts, agriculture, animal husbandry etc and to enhance their technical skills.

c) Encourage independence, self-reliance, and confidence among trainees, enabling them to make informed decisions about their lives.

d) Equip persons with intellectual disabilities with marketable skills, increasing their chances of securing employment or starting their own ventures.

e) Raise awareness among family members, employers, and the community about the capabilities and contributions of persons with intellectual disabilities.

f) Establish support mechanisms, such as job coaching, mentoring, and peer support, to facilitate successful transition to employment or entrepreneurship.

g) Advocate for inclusive policies and practices in education, employment, and community settings, ensuring equal opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities.

h) Continuously assess the effectiveness of the training program, gathering feedback from trainees, employers, and stakeholders to inform future improvements.
