Life-skill education to children between age group 13-18 infected & affected with HIV

Kerala State AIDS Control Society (KSACS) in 2017 have identified that there are 29,325 persons who are infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) out of which 710 are children. HIV may be particularly challenging for children belonging to a family with HIV-positive members. Children born into HIV-affected families have reported numerous psychological and physical problems, including fear, isolation, depression, etc.

As a key initiative for addressing this issue Social Justice Department along with KSACS has strategized a scheme which provides life-skill education to adolescent children between age group 13 to 18 who are infected and affected with HIV. The main objective of the scheme is to ensure physical, psychological and social upliftment of such underprivileged children and to bring them to the mainstream of the society.

Beneficiaries:-

Children between age group 13 to 18 who are infected and affected with HIV in Kerala are the beneficiaries under this scheme. Since the beneficiaries involve children who are infected and affected with HIV, confidentiality will be maintained about their whereabouts.

Objectives:-

  • Enable infected and affected children to adapt to their living conditions.

  • Help them to lead a systematic lifestyle and create awareness on the preventive measures to curb HIV.
